2024 Season | Sky Star’s Shocking Injury Update
Rising WNBA star Angel Reese’s rookie season with the Chicago Sky has come to a sudden end due to a season-ending injury. This unexpected news has left fans and the basketball community in shock, as Reese was one of the most exciting and influential players of the season.
Reese made the announcement after the Sky’s 92-78 win over the Los Angeles Sparks, and it saddened her supporters, who had been amazed by her incredible contributions to the team. In her statement, Reese expressed mixed emotions, sharing her disappointment over the early end to her season but also gratitude and hope for what’s to come.
On Twitter, Reese said: "What a year. I never imagined my last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3-pointer, but maybe that was God’s way of saying, ‘This is just a taste of what’s coming in Year 2, lol.’”
She added, “You’ll still see me being the biggest cheerleader on the sideline! And Unrivaled league, see you soon!”
Reese, a forward, has had a tremendous impact on the court. In the 34 games she played, she recorded an impressive 26 double-doubles and averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. She set records along the way, leading the league in rebounds and offensive rebounds per game and breaking the WNBA single-season record for total rebounds.
Her achievements went beyond the regular stats. She earned a spot as a WNBA All-Star and gave a standout performance during the All-Star game. Earlier in the season, Reese made history by securing double-doubles in 15 consecutive games, breaking the previous league record. She also surpassed Sylvia Fowles’ record of 404 total rebounds in a season, ending with an outstanding 446, including a record-breaking 172 offensive rebounds.
Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson finished the season with 406 rebounds, showing just how dominant Reese was in her rookie year.
As the Chicago Sky battles for a playoff spot, tied with Atlanta for the eighth position, Reese plans to stay involved with the team. Though she can’t play, she will continue to support her teammates from the sidelines, as she stated she’ll be their “biggest cheerleader.”
Looking ahead, Reese hinted at her return for the inaugural season of the Unrivaled League, a 3-on-3 basketball competition founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. Despite the setback, Reese’s future in basketball remains bright, and fans are eager to see her back in action.
